Prayer: Aisha Jones read the prayer this evening.
Song:Len Vilandry chose "God Bless America" for our song.
Happy Fines: Bob Campbell enjoyed a weekend in New York City and seeing his daughter perform at Carnegie Hall - but was astounded at the outrageous prices (that's big city living); Rich Duncan also had a great time in New York City at his twenty-fifth High School Reunion; Mary Pepin is glad to be back after missing a couple of meetings; Len Vilandry is very happy to be celebrating his 33rd wedding anniversary on Sunday and is sending his wife off alone for a vacation; Ed Woodcome for the Interact Club members having a successful fundraiser; President Mark for the good time had by all at the Superintendent's Dinner at Monty Tech; Ed Woodcome is proud that Eddie made such a good impression on the "bigwigs" at his company in earning rave reviews for a project he is working on; Aisha Jones glad to see Terry O’Callaghan at the meeting.
Sad Fines: Bob Campbell for Joyce Cambell's back problems; Mary Pepin for missing the meeting for two weeks; Pat Glover for being absent from last week's meeting; Aisha Jones for not "fessing up" to having a birthday last week; Bill Walsh paid for missing the meeting last week, as did Terry O'Callaghan (think that should be MEETINGS!); Bud Fortin forgot to pay for his birthday song last week; Seema for sadly missing the birthdays of both her mother and her sister OOOPS!!
Announcements:
- Gwen O'Neil brought us up to date on the GSE team from Turkey, arriving in the area on Thursday. Please refer to Gwen's e-mail for a schedule of activities planned for the visitors. There will be a pot-luck supper at Gwen's house on Friday evening... 24 Cortland Circle, Lunenburg - 6:30/7:00 PM. Please RSVP to Gwen.
- Next week's meeting will be held at the Singapore Restaurant in the Twin City Plaza (near K-Mart/Kappy's/Bob’s Store).
- The District Conference will take place on Friday May 2, Saturday May 3, and Sunday May 4, at the Holiday Inn Boxborough Woods. DG Greg will host a hospitality suite on Friday and Saturday and would like our club to participate on Friday evening. Finger foods, beverages, paper goods, etc. will be needed. As this is a multi-cultural event, all kinds of food will be welcomed.
- Please note the date change...The First Annual Teachers Celebration & Recognition Dinner will now take place on May 13 at the Best Western Royal Plaza, 150 Royal Plaza Drive, Fitchburg. $35.00 per ticket/$350.00 table of 10. Bob Campbell reiterated that everyone in the club needs to lend a hand to make the evening a success. Donations have been received from Unitil, General Motors and several other organizations. Members are asked to donate a basket for the raffle, which Mary Pepin will collect if the donor is not attending the event. Aisha Jones is designing the booklet.
Program: It must be Spring - Terry O'Callaghan spoke about the Flower Box Project which has grown from an original seven boxes to approximately 86 boxes and two islands. Terry stressed that all members need to help out with this very important project. We will meet on Sunday, May 4 at 8:00 AM on the bridge downtown to start prep work on the boxes. Please make every effort to attend and lend a helping hand. It is hoped that we can plant the boxes on May 18th. Help is also needed to assist Bud and Herb with their work on the islands.
Twenty boxes were replaced last year, and Terry is of the opinion that we can get by this year by patching the boxes where needed - he asked Ed Woodcome to check with the Interact Club to see if they would be able to paint the boxes. The watering schedule will be available soon and will be posted in the bulletin so everyone is aware of their "duty". Aisha Jones volunteered to be the "reminder" and will 'phone members the evening before they are scheduled to water.
Applications for the boxes are on the website. Cost is $175.00 per box.
